SSS’s Responsibilities for Parents under 20

Self-Sufficiency Specialists (SSSs) a re responsible for the cases of parents who are under age 20. When providing case management for these cases, the responsibilities of SSSs include, but are not limited to:

  • processing applications and case maintenance activities
  • completing a TAFDC reevaluation every six months
  • completing Pathways to Work Planning activities, including ongoing goal setting
  • ensuring each parent is connected to an education or training program, including those who must meet the school rules
  • developing and updating Pathways to Work Plans for any participating client in their caseload 
  • providing parents with a child care referral and connecting them to the Child Care Resource and Referral (CCRR) agency to receive voucher services, if support service is needed 

    • Note: Clients must be informed of all options for child care services (e.g. family day care centers, relative care, and in-home care).

  • referring clients to community-based and local supports, such as parenting skills classes and outreach services, if appropriate
  • working with a DCF Young Parent Liaison to coordinate the Young Parent Living Program referral and assessment process, when appropriate, and
  • coordinating necessary interagency services to meet the needs of the family

Responding to BEACON Views

SSSs must respond to BEACON views located in the My Office tab on the Home page, as one of the tools for ongoing case maintenance and client engagement activities. SSSs will actively use all views in the Pathways to Work folder (see Pathways to Work Views) to work with parents in their caseload. Additionally, the following views are also essential for SSSs:
