Caretaker Family Disability Exemption - EAEDC
What is the Disability Exemption for a Caretaker?
A grantee included in the EAEDC Caretaker Family case, is subject to the Department of Career Services (DCS) registration at MassHire or Transitional Employment for Massachusetts Parents (TEMP) participation rules once the youngest child in their household reaches age 15 years or older, unless an exemption or good cause exists.
Grantees requesting an exemption from this rule due to a disability or health condition can verify their disability or health condition by the same methods as an EAEDC disabled individual with the following exception:
- An EAEDC grantee in a Caretaker Family case is exempt from the DCS registration and TEMP participation rules for the period of time indicated by the medical provider even if the medical provider indicates the disability or health condition will last less than 60-days.
How is the Disability Exemption Verified?
To verify the disability or health condition you must explore available data sources to determine if a disability determination exists as described in Disability Verification-EAEDC
Where no existing disability determination is found, the client must be sent the EAEDC Medical Provider Statement to verify their disability or health condition.
You must then follow the procedures outlined in Responding to the EAEDC Medical Provider Statement and Entering the Disability-EAEDC to correctly record the disability or lack thereof, in BEACON.
What Happens if the Disability is Not Verified?
If the disability or health condition is unable to be verified, the client remains subject to the DCS registration or TEMP requirements. You must discuss this with the client and provide them with the name and phone number for the Full Engagement Worker (FEW) assigned to your caseload. The FEW can provide the client with detailed information about available resources and opportunities that can assist the client in identifying MassHire training and employment opportunities. You must inform the grantee that they must begin meeting the DCS or TEMP requirements or their EAEDC can be denied or closed.
