  • Yes, proof of identity is required if the assisting person transacts SNAP benefits.
What are some examples of acceptable documentation?
Can the assisting person designate themselves for this role?
  • No. The client should be the one to authorize an individual/organization for this role. Individuals signing on behalf of the client must submit a guardianship decree, power of attorney or court documents with the applicable DTA/external form.
If an overpayment occurs because this assisting person gives DTA the wrong information, who is responsible for the overpayment?
  • Not applicable. Individuals identified under this role are not authorized to be interviewed. They cannot report or make changes to a client’s case.


Note: Following BEACON enhancements and the conversion to a new EBT vendor (from FIS to Fidelity Information Systems - FIS), DTA can now issue one single EBT card to an Authorized Representative for EBT Transactions (SNAP) who is also assigned as an Authorized Payee (TAFDC/EAEDC) for the same client. The Authorized person no longer needs two separate EBT cards for SNAP and cash.
