Case Closings Resulting in TBA for the Client

When certain TAFDC cases close due to income, the Department will provide Transitional Benefits Alternative (TBA) SNAP benefits for five months, adjusted for the loss of TAFDC benefits.

TBA Period

All PA SNAP cases eligible for TBA have their certification periods automatically extended for five months.  However, if the client comes back on TAFDC before the five-month period expires due to the loss of income, he or she may receive standard SNAP benefits, if otherwise eligible.

Determining the TBA Amount

A Potential TBA Amount is automatically determined for each TAFDC case that closes for income that has an associated PA SNAP case. The Potential TBA Amount is determined by a recalculation that excludes the TAFDC grant and is stored but not displayed on any page.
