Related Benefit

The Related Benefit page is used when the client is entitled to a special benefit. For example, an applicant may be owed SNAP benefits for a prior month due to a change in circumstances that was reported and verified.  When a pending or active household is entitled to a special additional benefit, go to the Program Administration workflow and open the Related Benefit page.

Creating a Related Benefit

To create a Related Benefit:

  1. select the type of benefit from the Type drop-down list
  2. enter the amount in the Amount field
  3. enter the date when the Related Benefit period begins. You can select a date from the popup calendar
  4. enter the date when the Related Benefit period ends. You can select a date from the popup calendar
  5. click Save
  6. click Next to save your entries or changes and go to the next page in the workflow
  7. click Finish to save your entries or changes and to exit the page and the workflow

Cancelling a Related Benefit

A Related Benefit can only be changed prior to being released to the Financial Management Control System (FMCS), which is the department’s system that issues payments to clients.  Once the benefit is released by BEACON to FMCS for payment, it will be in a view-only status.

To cancel a Related Benefit:

  1. select the record in BEACON, (a record is one complete set of fields relating to the client) from the select list
  2. select Cancel benefit
  3. to save the request to cancel the related benefit, click the Save button
  4. click Next to save your entries or changes and go to the next page in the workflow
  5. click Finish to save your entries or changes and to exit the page and the workflow

Modifying a Related Benefit

A Related Benefit can only be changed prior to being released to the Financial Management Control System (FMCS), which is the department’s system that issues payments to clients. Once the benefit is released by BEACON to FMCS for payment, it will be in a view-only status.

To modify a Related Benefit:

  1. select the benefit to be modified
  2. make the necessary changes to the benefit information, such as amount or date
  3. click Save
  4. click Finish
  5. go to the Authorization page in Interview Wrapup to authorize the corrected benefit

List of SNAP-Related Benefit Types

The following is a list of SNAP benefit types that may be issued from the Related Benefit page. (The corresponding former PACES coding is also noted for reference purposes.)

A system-generated notice informs the client of the related benefit and that the payment will be deposited into the client’s EBT account.  The notice will appear in the Client Communications Tab.

FSP Retroactive/Next Cycle Benefit - (PACES V06)

  • for active SNAP case
  • supplement is combined with next cyclical issuance
  • may not exceed one and one-half times the maximum allotment for the size of the case
  • amount may not exceed $999.99

FSP Supplement/Immediate Issuance - (PACES V07)

  • for pending or active SNAP case to issue lost benefits
  • amount may not exceed $999.99

FSP Supplement/Next Cyclical Benefit - (PACES V08)

  • for active SNAP case to issue lost benefits in monthly installments
  • supplement is combined with next cyclical issuance
  • may not exceed one and one-half times the maximum allotment for the size of the household
  • amount may not exceed $999.99

FSP Supplement Adjustment Deduction - (PACES V09)

  • for active SNAP case, to decrease or eliminate lost and retroactive benefits issued in monthly installments.  Household was issued FSP Retro/Next Cyclical Issuance or FSP Supplement/ Next Cyclical Issuance in the past
  • amount may not exceed $999.99

FSP Household Disaster - (PACES V15)

  • for active SNAP case, to replace benefits lost in disaster or misfortune
  • amount may not exceed $999.99

FSP Supplementary Benefit - (PACES V16)

  • for active SNAP case, to issue supplementary benefits
  • amount may not exceed $999.99

Note: BEACON automates a benefit offset process, including calculation and notification, when a client is owed certain types of SNAP supplemental benefits, and also owes money to the Department as a result of an overpayment. This automated process occurs whenever a case manager enters any of the following types of payment for benefits on the Related Benefits page for a SNAP household that has an overpayment claim:

  • FSP Retroactive / Next Cycle Benefit
  • FSP Supplement / Next Cyclical Benefit; and
  • FSP Supplementary Benefit
