Domestic Violence Services Available

The Domestic Violence Unit (DV Unit) provides consultation, training, and technical assistance to DTA staff working with clients who have experienced domestic violence (DV). Domestic Violence Specialists (DV Specialists) and Domestic Violence Coordinators (DV Coordinators) can support survivors of domestic violence with safety planning, referrals to resources, safe housing, and child support options.

The DV Unit can assist DV clients who need waivers of certain program requirements if complying may put the client and/or their family at risk. This includes TAFDC work and time limit rules, parents under 20 rules, and Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWD) work rules.

The DV Unit collaborates with DTA staff, community organizations, and other state agencies to best serve the needs of survivors of domestic violence. Each Transitional Assistance Office (TAO) is assigned a DV Specialist who works in partnership with their office staff and their regional team led by their regional DV Coordinator. The DV Specialist acts as a resource by providing case consultation and safety assessments. Additionally, they will advocate for families within DTA, advocate with other agencies, connect households to appropriate resources, and help with safety planning.

The DV Unit works with survivors of DV in collaboration with the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) to assess safety, provide geographical restrictions where applicable, and refer clients to appropriate community resources. The DV Unit also works with survivors in collaboration with the Department of Revenue’s Safety Team to assist with safe cooperation with child support or to assist with claiming good cause for not cooperating with child support.
