Mandatory Verifications
Please see the chart below for information about the mandatory verifications required for each DTA program. This chart is intended only as a guide. Verifications are the use of documentary evidence, collateral contacts, external databases, or self-declaration to establish to establish the accuracy of client statements. The preferred source of verifications will vary depending on program and eligibility factor.

Reminder: U.S. citizenship, although mandatory does not need to be verified unless it is questionable or the status has changed. Any applicant who is not a U.S. citizen and does not want to provide immigration status has the option of being excluded from the grant. If an eligible noncitizen chooses to be included in the assistance unit, noncitizen status must be verified at every application and reevaluation. Non-citizens who opt not to apply with their household must still be entered and marked as present on the Household page.
However, once an applicant indicates an inability or unwillingness to provide information or verification of non-citizen status, staff must not ask any further questions or pursue documentation with regard to that person’s non-citizen status.
